The staff make the place. They are the most caring group of people Ive experienced in some time There was not one bad apple. No poor attitudes, no mad faces. Just a collective good energy working hard to ensure they delivered the best experience in potentially dire circumstances. The building itself is pretty run down in areas. Housekeeping was rarely seen outside of changing trash can liners. The shower was not useable as it hadnt been thoroughly cleaned. The floors in the bathroom were dirty and still showed previous patients hair. Dietary is also an area requiring improvement. I was provided the same meal, 3 times in a row. Many times foods listed on the tray were not there. Lastly, there desperately needs to be more vegetarian options. We're in California.
Overall the nursing and staff were fantastic. I experienced them as warm and kind and friendly. All of the tests my mom went through took a long time, but that is understandable given how busy they were with Kaiser and Cedars on strike. They were very kind with my mother and I can see how hard they all worked.
I came in this hospital with shortness of breath, tight chest, and wheezing. I was assisted immediately due to my high heart rate, came in at 139, and was in the triage before I was in the system. The majority of my ER nurses were great except for one male who unfortunately could not find my vein and attempted to just go ahead and move the needle around even though I was crying in pain from it. That was the only negative part about this experience. I had to stay overnight and got a room almost an hour after being admitted. I came in late Christmas Eve and was very thankful I was being helped immediately. I believe my first overnight nurses’s name was Jenny? Jhenny? Jenni? She recommended I get the pneumonia vaccine on my way out to prevent this from happening again. She was lovely and attentive. The next few of my daytime and overnight nurses were Maeve and Essie! Both super lovely ladies who were very attentive and very helpful. They made sure any injection or IV insertion or fluid was as painless as possible. When I had called for them they showed up in a timely manner. Any question or concern I had they made sure I got an appropriate and accurate as possible answer. They were both super sweet ladies that attended me so well. Very grateful for them. I wish them well in their careers there. If you ever happen to get them as your nurses you will be so well taken care of and so lucky! Discharge came sooner than I expected and they made sure I left with whatever vaccines and medications right before I left. I’ve heard many things about this place but my experience was a very positive one compared to what I have heard. Overall, good hospital, great nurses (except for that one ER male nurse 👎🏼) and decent tv channels. Thank you so much for taking care of me!
Do not go there if you can help it! This was the most horrific Hospital experience ever! My mother was there for five days for a broken tibia in her leg. She had surgery a day after having been admitted to emergency which was awful. She had to wait an hour and a half, sometimes just for Tylenol because they had to call the doctor and that was after we asked for the Tylenol three times this happened often even when just asking for water! Before being wheeled back down from postop, the room was empty and there was trash all over the floor. The food was disgusting. The nurses would say they'd be right back and they wouldn't come back for hours. After being discharged, there were no discharge documents! Nothing about how to take care of the wound! Nothing given to her for pain or sleeping as the doctor had said he would give us. Now it is three days after having come home and we are just now receiving the medical equipment that they said would be there at the house. We are still waiting on a PT and occupational therapy person. The wound is bleeding and we still do not have a nurse at the home. I called the doctor to see if he could speed up the nurse being approved and the documentation sent to the third-party provider and have yet to receive a call. Nice work ortho surgeon! This is absolutely the worst nightmare for the family and for my mother! I have spent hours trying to get the medical equipment and PT and nurse to get scheduled and it's the hospital staff that messed it up. One nurse admitted to me that the discharge documents were worthless. The case manager Sharma has been working it and she must be understaffed. One good nurse was Francisa and the PT guy Thomas was very good. Other than that, this was a medical disaster and I don't wish it on anyone. They asked for feedback in a survey and I gave it and at the end it said we will get back to you and have I heard from them? Of course not! Don't ask for feedback if you're not going to act on it and you're dealing with people's lives! Whoever runs this place is not doing their job. Nothing noted about icing the swollen feet or Lee them raised,, nothing about how often to give pain medication, absolutely nothing! The only thing on there was the meds she was taking which we already had.
I am reviewing my stay at Centinela which began February 23. I was admitted for my 2nd laminectomy in a year. I stayed at Centinela for 2weeks after my surgery due to insurance issues causing difficulty with finding a home health agency for my physical and occupational therapy which I would need when I was discharged. While I was an inpatient after my surgery I was given great care by all. I have to give a shout out to Liseth from the physical therapy department who provided me with some great physical therapy sessions that really helped to improve my strength while hospitalized. Tomas gave me some great PT education tips along with Veronica Velazquez and Maria. I also had some great OT sessions with Mina, Chisuko and John. Gloria and Jennie on nights always checking me frequently along with Kash and Yi. There were many others since I stayed on the 8th and 4th floor during my hospitalization so please forgive me for not mentioning your name. Overall these staff and others made my extended stay a positive experience. And my therapists who have overseen my therapy with my home visits have told me that I must have received some great therapy sessions while I was hospitalized because they see my strength gaining rapidly. Thank you Liseth, John, Veronica, Maria, Tomas, Jennie and everyone else. I am home and continuing my therapy that you started me on. I cannot thank you enough! John R Rodriguez.
