I rarely leave reviews, but families deserve to know what our experience was like at Kindred Hospital Ontario. I am only giving 1 star because my mom said some of the nurses were kind to her. Beyond that, our experience was heartbreaking. My mom was fighting cancer and receiving chemotherapy every 3 weeks. Her cancer was stable — it was not growing, even if it was not shrinking. Then she started repeatedly developing pneumonia and was transferred to Kindred in mid-April for long-term care. From the moment she arrived, it felt like basic patient care moved painfully slow. She was told she could not even use a bedside toilet until she had a physical therapy evaluation. Because she arrived on a Friday evening, we were told PT was only available Monday through Friday, so she had to wait the entire weekend for something so basic. By Monday she was finally approved. But her condition rapidly declined while there. Within about a week, she developed congestive heart failure, then renal failure. Her urine became completely bloody, yet dialysis kept being delayed and pushed back. Then she developed blood clots in her leg and had to be transferred back to the hospital, Monday evening, May 27th. At the hospital, we were told she needed surgery, but by then her condition was so severe she could not even be safely intubated for the procedure. She was in unbearable pain and eventually chose hospice care instead. I signed the hospice papers on Wednesday April 29th and she passed away on Friday, May 1st. Watching someone you love decline this quickly is devastating. I understand my mother was already very sick, but our family left Kindred feeling like delays, lack of urgency, and poor coordination of care made an already terrible situation even worse. No family should walk away feeling this helpless.
Shirley is an amazing CNA. Every time I have her she makes me feel like my brother is in great hands! I also love security at the front desk. Lyn and Ken make us feel so welcomed when we come in and help us connect with anyone we need to. I recommend this hospital to everyone. I have loved the service here. My case manager is Pat and she has been incredible. She has been a huge help the entire time. Everyone in unit 4 has been a huge help! Thank you so much for helping with my brother's care, helping him get better enough to move on and continue to get better. Dialysis treatment happened so well every time and the nurses helped him feel comfortable and cared for. The director of nursing helped me out so much, Ruth was so helpful. I had so many questions and the staff always had time for me. I recommend talking to security and having them help you connect with people. They are always at the desk and ready to help. I would always recommend this place.
After coming daily to visit Security was always the first cheerful face that always greeted me thanks Jackie. Marlene, Norma and Maria always had a great breakfast or lunch ready for me 🤣 Pricilla EVS made sure the room was always clean prior to me arriving promptly at 9am. The CNA’s that stood out and appreciated my help you both were fantastic e Marco & Rasheika all the patients should be grateful to have you. Melanie,Ranjit and Tess handled the only problem I had THANKS LADIES. Although I didn’t have much interaction with Admin or many of the other staff they recognized my face daily and also greeted me warmly. The facility was always clean and no weird smells. Doctors Velasquez & Hamzaa you both were AMAZING you took the time to listen and respond properly to all my concerns continue to Bless others ❤️ Forever Grateful Caregiver of 211A.
Don’t even THINK of placing your family members here because they do not care about them. My family member has been there for just over a month and the nurses really have no empathy and do not care about their patients. My family member was left sitting in their own feces and waste on MULTIPLE occasions it’s absolutely sad and disgusting. When you try to bring these issues up, the nurses brush you off and go on about their day. If you call for any updates on your family member, they act as if you’re bothering them and they’re annoyed. Management is no help either because the same issues keep happening. Find somewhere that actually CARES about their patients and enjoys their job. Almost everyone here walks around as if they hate their line of work. Don’t be a nurse or anything in the medical field if you have no empathy and don’t want to help people.
For the past few months my father has been in and out of different hospitals and long term care facilities. He’s dying and it has been a horrible experience dealing with the doctors, case managers etc. communication was my key complaint. My father has been at this facility since the end of January. This facility and its assertive staff have restored my faith in health care. They’ve taking my father’s care seriously and it seems like my father is healing. Sara, Bianca, Aliyah, Andrea (Dr Glover) and all the staff have treated my father as their own. I’m overwhelmed by the care that he has received. They are now assisting with moving him to hospice. They have held out hands through this entire process and I’m forever grateful.
