LILA openly discriminates against the homeless, which is horrendously unethical, a misdirection of any funding meant to support vulnerable disabled people, and just illogical for a disability agency. I've been trying to get services with them since September, before I became homeless due to the disability I was seeking services for. I did intake three times, over the phone, over email and in-person and even was in contact with one of the program directors. They never provided services or finished my intake and lost my info between each time I talked to them. They told me they would follow up within a couple weeks after each intake and never did, so I called or emailed and was always just asked to do intake again, which went on for months. I finally was able to go in person on Nov 13, and they started signing me up for services until I gave them my mailing address, which is now a homeless service agency. They went from signing me in to just immediately telling me I can't be on property anymore after viewing my address, purely on the basis of using a homeless service provider, and asked me to leave their building in the rain. I calmly asked to file a formal grievance and was given about 1/4th of a note card to write anything on, smaller than the size of my palm, and I was told it would be placed in a suggestion box that might be opened monthly, and that this is their only avenue for grievances. This is an incredibly crooked organization. They didn't care that I'm a certified peer support specialist wanting to volunteer and help other people. Any services LILA provides are wildly exclusionary which is immediately harmful to the disabled population. I am calling for a boycott or defunding of LILA until they change their discriminatory policies. I'm telling all my service providers and the rest of the community what happened, and most other providers don't even believe this would happen, tell me that it doesn't sound right and they wouldn't do that.
